The Cabana Beach Blog – Dive Spots

Hi, I am Peter Beach, here at THE CABANA BEACH COZUMEL

Cozumel has been known Worldwide for over 50 years for its incredible Coral Reefs and World Class Scuba Diving and Snorkeling. From Chankanaab Reef South to Santa Rosa, Palancar, Columbia and Many More Incredible Dive Spots Along A 10 Mile Long Reef System Inside A National Marine Park. There are many 5 STAR Dive Shops here in Cozumel and many companies offering snorkeling tours. There even is a Submarine to take you on a reef tour.

Here at THE CABANA BEACH, we are in front of the Chankanaab Shallows Snorkeling Reef. Said by many to be the best shore snorkeling in Cozumel. And the best spot for spectacular night dives.. Palancar deep has the wreck of the Popocatepetl a 180 foot former WW2 US Navy Minesweeper which was given to the Mexican Navy where it served as a Gunboats for many years.. it was sunk after 2000 in 80 feet, with the top deck about 40 feet.

The Reef in Cozumel which is called Palancar Reef is divided into different sections each with its own name. Each section has its own characteristics and depths.

The Punta Sur section, which is a deep dive that starts at 80 fee, it has the famous Devils Throat Cave where you enter at 80 feet and come out at 120 feet.

Then there are the Columbia and Palancar Caves which start at 40 feet and go down to 80 feet. Palancar also has a section which is very shallow and is perfect for snorkeling.

Past Del Cedral is at 70 feet and not a wall but it is the perfect spot to see nurse sharks.

We have the famous Santa Rosa Caves which start at 60 feet and go down to 120 feet right on the edge of the wall. This is one of Cozumels preferred Reef as you go in and out of Caves and you can really appreciate the wall that goes down into the deep blue.

Yucab, Tormentos and Paradixe are not on the edge of the Reef, they are considered shallow dives and are perfect for beginners.

There are many other sections of the Palancar Reef System, each one of them offers a unique experience and landscape. Remember all dives in Cozumel are drift dives.

Enjoy your diving experience in Cozumel and remember on your day off from diving come to THE Cabana Beach for another unique experience.

IN THE COMING WEEKS I WILL BE ANSWERING QUESTIONS ABOUT OTHER ASPECTS OF COZUMEL AND THE CABANA BEACH. RESTAURANTS, HOTELS AIR B&B, HOUSE RENTALS LAND TOURS AND MORE. SEE YOU
